Occupational Summary

Perform routine administrative and patient care supportive duties in a Health System medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensure office runs smoothly.


Work Performed

  • Perform intake with patients to include vital signs, visit information, and other clinical information as indicated.
  • Perform EKGs, cardiac monitor enrollment, application, documentation and billing process
  • POC testing for glucose and anticoagulation monitoring
  • Perform telephone message taking with patients, document encounter, follow protocolsestablished by clinic leadership, and inform provider.
  • Participates in performance improvement projects.
  • Completing procedural tasks including: administering vaccinations and medications according to protocols and provider orders, specimen collection and correct labeling, assisting with clinic-performed procedures (including EKGs, stress testing, holter monitors, 6- minute walks, orthostatic blood pressures).
  • Performs tasks such as set up for clinical procedures, high level disinfection and sterilization or other miscellaneous appropriate tasks within scope of practice.
  • Float in clinic to cover patient and provider needs as delegated by nurse manager, health center administrator, charge nurse, or nurse team lead.


Required Qualifications at this Level


Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required.

Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required.
